Greece is a European country on the southernmost tip of the Balkan Peninsula, with extensive coastlines and islands in the Aegean, Ionian, and Mediterranean Seas. Covering around 130,000 square kilometres, it shares borders with Albania, the Republic of Macedonia and Bulgaria to the north, and Turkey to the east.

The ancient heritage of Greece is world-famous and there are numerous palaces, temples, monuments and archaeological grounds for visitors to explore, many of which are World Heritage Sites.

If you’re heading over to Athens, don’t miss the Athenian Acropolis, which features an impressive collection of historical architecture, including the breath-taking Parthenon, which was opened in 432BC and has served as a temple, fortress, church and a mosque over the years.

Some of the country’s other important landmarks include the ancient theatre of Delphi, the Metéora monasteries, and the Olympia archaeological site (birthplace of the modern Olympic Games).
