Etihad Airways has been Manchester City Football Club’s main club partner since May, 2009. During that time the club has enjoyed considerable success with an FA Cup win in 2011 and the Barclays Premier League victory in season 2011-12.

The Club’s stadium has been renamed as the Etihad Stadium, forming the centre piece of a newly-named Etihad Campus, which encompasses a large part of the Sportcity site in East Manchester, the popular City Square entertainment space and additional existing and planned facilities. It’s a period of great success for Manchester City, and Etihad Airways are delighted to play a part in this great period for the Club.

The partnership will see Etihad Airways and Al Ain Football Club working together on a number of key initiatives. These include the provision of club flights to AFC Champions League fixtures around the region as well as promotions for club management, players and supporters.

Located at the gateway to Melbourne’s Central Business District in the exciting Docklands precinct, the 55,000 capacity stadium features a fully retractable roof and hosts over 100 sporting, concert, and cultural events every year.

Opened in 2000, its central location also means easy access for fans traveling by public transport, taxi or private car, be they Concert goers or Australian Rules Football, Soccer, Rugby, or Cricket fans.

Etihad Stadium branding features on giant landmark signs on the outside of the building and on all directional, scoreboard and perimeter advertising signage throughout the interior of the Stadium.

The sponsorship announced at a press conference held at the stadium attended by James Hogan CEO Etihad Airways and Ian Collins CEO Melbourne Stadiums Limited in 2009 has introduced a new word into the Australian language – “are you going to Etihad at the weekend?”

Etihad flies daily from Abu Dhabi direct non-stop to Melbourne.

The sponsorship, which commenced with the inaugural 2009 F1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix showcases both Etihad and Abu Dhabi to a global TV audience of over 80 million people.

Held at the spectacular, purpose built Yas Marina Circuit on Yas Island just 20 minutes from Abu Dhabi, the race was a sellout in its first year and voted best event of the 2009 season by the FIA.

Etihad Airways has signed a 12 month extension to its sponsorship of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) Hurling All Ireland Senior Championship as the official sponsor and airline.

The GAA was first signed in March 2008 and the partnership has been highly successful with Abu Dhabi hosting the MDonnelly Inter-Provincial Hurling Championship last year between Leinster and Connacht.

Etihad also won the European Sponsorship of the year award in the Business to Consumer category for its marketing activity during the first year of the deal.

The All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championships is one of Ireland’s oldest sporting competitions, with the first final taking place back in 1887.

Etihad Airways is the main sponsor of the UK Premiership rugby team, Harlequins RFC. Harlequins are based at The Twickenham Stoop in London and compete in the top rugby league in the UK and all the top European club competitions.

Among the highlights of the partnership is the branding of the stadium roof, which is placed under the London Heathrow airport flight path, in Etihad livery. The East Stand of the Twickenham Stoop was also renamed the Etihad Stand.

Etihad Airways continues to align itself with innovative sports events and teams across the region, from international level down to the grass roots. At a local level, Etihad is a lead sponsor for the Abu Dhabi Harlequins Rugby Union Football Club, which has been competing in the region since 1969, and has 15 teams covering men’s, women’s, veterans’, youth and mini rugby.

Etihad is the title sponsor of the “Etihad Junior Rugby Festival” which took place for the first time in November 2008. The Rugby Festival consists of a training camp for kids in the community and a Junior Rugby Tournament which involves more than 1500 children aged 7 to 18 and which is believed to be the biggest junior tournament of its kind. The training camp takes place over four days and involves some of Harlequins Rugby coaches as well as some past and present players.
