If you’re visiting Scotland, the cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh have plenty to offer. Glasgow is known as a centre for culture. It’s packed with music venues, such as the O2 Academy and Glasgow Barrowland Ballroom, along with museums and galleries, such as the Burrell Collection, the Scotland Street School Museum and the People’s Palace and Winter Gardens. Attractions in Edinburgh, the capital of Scotland, include the Royal Mile, Edinburgh Castle, the Palace of Holyroodhouse, the Royal Botanic Garden and the Edinburgh Dungeon. The annual Edinburgh Festival Fringe, which takes place in August, is known throughout the world.
Cardiff, the capital of Wales, is also a great place to visit. Explore Cardiff Castle, watch rugby at the Millennium Stadium, learn about the cultural history of Wales at the open-air St Fagan’s National History Museum, or visit the new Cardiff Bay development which includes shops, restaurants and a number of attractions.
If you’re heading to Northern Ireland, you’ll find plenty to see and do in the city of Belfast. Take a tour of the 19th century Crumlin Road Gaol, explore the Botanic Gardens, visit Belfast Zoo or head for the Titanic’s Dock and Pump House to learn more about the history of this ill-fated ocean liner. For beautiful scenery, leave the city and explore the Causeway Coastal Route, which will take you to the Giant’s Causeway, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which is steeped in legend.
