Covering a total area of 3.3 million square kilometres, India is the seventh largest country on earth, sharing its land borders with Pakistan, Bangladesh, China, Nepal, Bhutan and Burma. In addition, it has the second biggest population in the world, with more than 1.2 billion residents, which is almost four times more than the United States.
Although the Indian economy has traditionally focused on agriculture and trade, the country has emerged as a rising international powerhouse, with fast-paced growth in the manufacturing, healthcare, technology and automotive industries. What’s more, tourism has become a major contributor to the GDP, fuelled by India’s hospitable culture, mouth-watering food, stunning landscapes and world-famous attractions. In total, around 5.5 million people visit the country from across the world each year.
