Also known as Karipur Airport, Calicut International Airport is the principal airport serving the city of Kozhikode in Kerala, India.
Although the airport is the ninth busiest airport in India overall, it is the seventh busiest in terms of international traffic volumes.
Calicut International Airport largely connects the city with destinations in the Middle East popular especially with residents of North Kerala who work abroad in the emirate.
The airport currently handles over 2 million passengers per year, most of whom are international travellers. The airport was the subject of a billion-rupee upgrade which resulted in its being awarded international airport status in 2006.
As part of the extensive refurbishments carried out, Calicut airport now operates an automated inline baggage system; improved parking facilities; conveyor belts and steel chairs to transport passengers across the extensive terminal grounds; and automated boarding and un-boarding aerobridges.
The airport has also been upgraded for passenger comfort with available facilities now including fast food outlets, cyber cafes and jewellery and handicraft retailers.
