Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, named after the 17th century Maratha Emperor Chhatrapati Shivaji, is the primary international airport serving Mumbai and the second busiest airport in South Asia.
There are five operating terminals at
Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, spanning a total of 19 square
kilometres and handling more than half of South Asia’s air traffic. Of these
five terminals, two are focused on passenger services, with airport-operated
coaches shuttling transit travellers between the international and domestic
terminals.
On average, between 30 and 40 million
passengers and 700,000 tonnes of cargo are handled each year at Chhatrapati
Shivaji International Airport. It has previously been ranked fourth best in the
world for its facilities, including food courts, spas and salons. In addition,
the airport has received a number of awards and honours from Airports Council
International, including the accolade of best airport in India and the
third-best airport in the world in the 25-40 million passengers category.
