Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, also known as Trivandrum International Airport, is the main airport in the state of Kerala, India, and is located less than 4 kilometres from Thiruvananthapuram city centre.
It is the eighth busiest airport in India in terms of international passenger traffic and handles around 2.8 million passengers and 28,000 aircraft movements every year.
Thiruvananthapuram International Airport was first established in 1932, at which time it handled only domestic flights. In 1991, Trivandrum was officially upgraded to international airport status, making it the first airport of its kind in India to be located out with the main metropolitan cities.
Today, Thiruvananthapuram International Airport has three terminals, all of which contain a range of passenger facilities. The newly built Terminal 3 is also entirely eco-friendly both inside and out and is home to a garden, water fountain and 40 different traditional plants which are designed to grow into a miniature forest.
