The main language in the Lahore is Punjabi with Urdu becoming more prevalent in many parts due to it being the Nation's official language and, in part, due to increasing immigration from other areas of the country. Lahore Airport, now renamed Allama Iqbal International Airport after the Islamic poet-philosopher Allama Sir Muhammad Iqbal, is the second largest civil airport in Pakistan.

The airport is the third busiest in the country, serving around 4 million passengers every year. It is located approximately 15 kilometres from the centre of Lahore, the capital city of Punjab province.

Lahore Airport contains three terminals, including a cargo terminal and a dedicated Hajj Terminal, used to cater for the influx of passengers during the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Plans have been approved for a major extension to the airport, which will double the number of check-in desks and immigration counters and expand the entire terminal area.

The main Allama Iqbal passenger terminal contains a variety of passenger amenities including financial services, duty-free outlets, restaurants, cafes and ice-cream parlours as well as specialist confectionary shops and a shopping arcade selling local goods including fine rugs and carpets.
