Attractions in Hyderabad

Offering a treasure-trove of historical monuments, Hyderabad is packed with royal palaces, ancient forts, religious sites and other landmarks. Perhaps the most famous is Charminar, which was constructed using granite, lime-mortar and pulverised marble in 1591. Considered one of India’s most-recognised structures, it consists of a square edifice bounded by four stunning minarets, each measuring around 50 metres. Visitors are permitted to climb the winding steps inside one of the towers for amazing views of the surrounding landscape.

Within a short distance from Charminar, you will find attractions such as Chowmahalla Palace, Qutb Shahi Tombs and Mecca Masjid, one of Hyderabad’s oldest mosques. In addition, a visit to the Golconda Fort, which once served as the capital of the Qutb Shahi Kingdom, is heavily recommended. As one of the most impressive fortresses in India, it is surrounded by a 10km outer wall and eight gateways, offering a wonderful photo opportunity for tourists.

For more opportunities to learn about Hyderabad’s past, there are several museums across the city, such as the Salar Jung Museum, housing one of the world’s biggest one-man antique collections, and the AP State Museum, offering a historical view of Andhra Pradesh’s arts and culture. The National History Museum and Nizam’s Museum are also popular with tourists.

Hyderabad Airport

Rajiv Gandhi Hyderabad International Airport, located around 22km south of central Hyderabad, is named after the former Prime Minister of India, Rajiv Gandhi.

Also known as Hyderabad International Airport, the facility opened in 2008 after nearly three years in construction, and has emerged as the sixth busiest airport in India.

A number of onsite facilities are available for passengers, including a vast array of lounges, eateries, shops and banks across its international and domestic terminals and airport village. In addition, it is the only airport in the world with its own open-air go kart track.

Rajiv Gandhi Hyderabad International Airport has been listed as one of the world’s top airports by Airports Council International (ACI), and ranked amongst the world’s top five airports in the annual Airport Service Quality Passenger Survey. It will have the capacity to accommodate 40 million passengers every year on completion of its long-term, three stage development plan.

Etihad Airways offers access to the Plaza Premium Lounge at Hyderabad Airport for our Pearl Business and Diamond First Class guests, with stunning views of the open airfield and runways.
