Hazrat Shahjalal International, also known as Dhaka International Airport or Zia International Airport, is the largest aviation hub in Bangladesh.
Operating 13 miles from the country's capital city Dhaka, it services an estimated 66% of arrivals to and departures from Bangladesh, connecting the region with 34 cities across 19 countries.
Three major terminals exist to service passengers: two international and one domestic. A VIP terminal is also in existence - just 200m from the main gate - for the use of visiting dignitaries.
Facilities at Hazrat Shahjalal International were recently upgraded with new technology and aviation equipment, and construction on a new terminal and runway resurfacing, drains improvement and other works is due to begin shortly.
It is estimated that passenger traffic volumes will continue to increase at Zia in the coming years, meaning the airport will likely need to undergo expansion before 2026 in order to meet increased demand.
