More and more travellers are taking flights to Seoul, capital of the East Asian nation of South Korea, because of its mix of cutting-edge modernity and deep-rooted cultural identity.

With a population of over 12 million, Seoul is the seventh largest city in the world. More than 24.5 million people, almost half the country’s population, live in Seoul’s metropolitan area - the Seoul National Capital Area. It is a classic mix of the old and the new as towering skyscrapers and modern highways share space with traditional wooden houses and cobbled alleys.

For explorers of East Asian culture, flights to Seoul are a great stopover point to neighbouring Japan and China.

A healthy mix of cultural, shopping and nightlife attractions keeps visitors busy in Seoul. Visit historic and cultural sites such as museums, temples and elegant palaces hosting cultural performances. Or take in some highly popular contemporary Korean cinema.

Go shopping in the large malls of Myeong-dong district, the Namdaemun Market (Korea's oldest), the massive Dongdaemun Market, the upmarket Rodeo Street in Gangnam-gu or the home of traditional arts and craft in Insa-dong.
