In June 2014, Etihad Airways struck an agreement with Melbourne City FC to become the clubs main sponsor for the A League season 2014 - 2015 and beyond. Etihad’s brand will be carried on the shirt front and training kit of the team.
Melbourne City FC is a professional soccer club based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. It competes in the country's premier competition, the A-League, under license from Football Federation Australia.
Known until June 2014 as Melbourne Heart, the club entered the competition in the 2010 - 2011 season after its formation in June 2009. In January 2014, the club was acquired by Manchester City, in partnership with the Australian rugby league club Melbourne Storm.
The club is run from a facility based at La Trobe University, and plays matches at Melbourne Rectangular Stadium, commercially known as AAMI Park (30,050 seat multi-use venue in Melbourne's City Centre). A youth squad competes in the National Youth League.
Etihad Airways is the Clubs first shirt sponsors since the name change.

About the sponsorship agreement
Etihad Airways shall be receiving major branded presence with Melbourne City FC. This will include our logo on the front of Melbourne City FC playing jerseys and training kit, plus a host of branding in stadiums around matches.
Soccer and the A-League continue to grow in popularity in Australia and this partnership sees a further expansion of Etihad’s commitment to Soccer and sport in Australia in general.
In addition to the branding opportunities, Etihad Airways and Melbourne City FC will work on together which include football schools for children, regular fan competitions, and promotional airfares for Club members and fans. Read the official press release.
