Kochi (Cochin) is located on the south west coast of India, its colonial name is Cochin and it is commonly referred to as the 'Gateway to Kerala'. Kochi has a wide and varied history having been influenced by many different cultures including the Portuguese, Chinese, Dutch, Arabs and British. Kochi is considered to be the second most significant city on the west coast of India, after Mumbai.

The Western Ghats are situated next to Kochi, on the east side, and the Arabian Sea is located to the west of the city. Kochi resides in the state of Kerala, in the Ernakulam district. Many tourists visit Kochi every year and remarks on beauty and diversity of the city, as such Kochi is considered to be in the top three destinations to visit by the World Travel and Tourism Council.

Kochiites are known for their enthusiasm in sports, especially football and cricket. The Jawaharlal Nehru International Stadium in Kochi is one of the large multi-use stadiums in India with international class lighting for football matches. Mattancherry Palace
Mattancherry Palace was built by the Portuguese in 1555 as a gift for the Maharaja of Kochi, the Dutch then renovated the Palace in 1663. Inside the building are a wide variety of various art forms and ancient paintings. The inner courtyard of the Palace house a small temple dedicated to the Goddess Pazhayannur Bhagavati. There are further temples on either side of the Palace dedicated to Lord Krishna and Lord Shiva.

Cochin International Airport, also known as Nedumbassery Airport and CIAL, is the largest and busiest airport in Kerala.  

Located at Nedumbassery, near Kochi, Cochin Airport handled 3.9 million passengers in 2009-10. It currently handles around 799 aircraft per week with 10,800 passengers each day. 

The airport pioneered the concept of private investment in the Indian airport sector by incorporating it as a public limited company. There are there terminals at Cochin Airport for cargo, domestic flights and international flights.
