Islamabad was newly founded in the 1960's and became the new capital of Pakistan, succeeding Karachi. The city has grown slowly since founded but now has expanded to over a million inhabitants, which has created interest from foreign investors, causing a knock-on growth in the economy.

Islamabad is considered to be one of the most cosmopolitan cities in Pakistan and, as such, has attracted various International meetings such as the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation summit. There are now many migrants, from other areas of Pakistan, in Islamabad who provide a diverse culture. It is easy to still see remnants of ancient civilizations in the city including Indus Valley, Soanian and Aryan.

Faisal Mosque
The Faisal Mosque is the biggest mosque in South Asia and the fourth biggest mosque in the world, it is considered to be the National Mosque of Pakistan. The mosque is spread over an area in excess of 5000 square metres and can hold over 300,000 worshippers at any one time. The idea for the Faisal Mosque was formed in 1966, three years later in 1969 a competition was held amongst leading architects from 17 different countries for the privilege of designing the project. Construction of the mosque began in 1976.

Daman-e-Koh
Daman-e-Koh is the most popular viewing point in Islamabad and is well known throughout the tourist grapevine. Daman-e-Koh is situated in the centre of the Margalla Hills in the northern part of Islamabad. The south part of Daman-e-Koh is the most popular point to view the surroundings as it provides panoramic views of Islamabad.

Islamabad Airport

Islamabad International Airport, now known as Benazir Bhutto International Airport is the third largest airport in Pakistan, serving the capital of Islamabad and its surrounding area.

Around 5 million passengers each year use the airport, which was named after Benazir Bhutto, 11th Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of the Pakistan People's Party.

The airport's passenger terminal contains different lounges for international and domestic economy passengers, with amenities including wireless internet, snack bars, satellite televisions and telephone and fax facilities.

The airport also contains a broad range of duty free shops, restaurants and banks as well as a number of souvenir and craft outlets and numerous mobile phone connection points.
