What you need to know before you book your flight

Onboard baby bassinets

If you’re travelling with an infant, baby bassinet positions are available on a first-come, first-served basis in the Coral Economy and Pearl Business cabins of each aircraft. Please book early to reserve one. The baby bassinets have been carefully designed to accommodate small children and infants under 10 months old and weighing less than 10kg.

For safety reasons, the bassinets can only be used once the aircraft is airborne and seat belt signs have been switched off.

Pre-ordering child meals

Children meals are available on all Etihad flights and have been specifically designed with our younger travellers in mind.

Please note that children meals are not available onboard unless they have been pre-ordered and should either be requested while booking your flight, or at least 24 hours before departure.

Child and infant fares

When booking a flight for your children, we will apply a fare rule based on their age.

Children aged between 2-11 years on the date of travel are classified as Child for fare purposes, while those aged less than two years are classified as infants.

Please note that infants are not provided with their own seat unless a child’s fare is purchased for them. In addition, different rules and procedures are applied to children travelling on their own as ‘Unaccompanied Minors’.

Hints & tips

Hints & tips

When travelling with children, it’s important to plan ahead. Think about everything you might need for the journey and pack your hand baggage accordingly.

However, don’t overload yourself and pack everything for the children in one bag, otherwise items might be hard to find. Here are some suggestions on what to pack:

  • A few games, books or small toys, as these will keep your child interested, calm and content without over-stimulating them.
  • A small gift for the journey, such as a new toy or game. This has novelty impact and keeps children entertained for longer. You could even wrap the gift to make it look more exciting.
  • Wet wipes for cleaning sticky hands and faces.
  • Sweets to suck or chew during take-off/landing to help your child clear their ears as the air pressure changes, as well as few of your child’s favourite snacks.
  • Your child’s favourite cuddly toy or blanket to help them settle (we suspect you never travel anywhere without it anyway).
  • Your own baby milk/formula and preferred baby food. This is allowed through security despite the normal restrictions regarding carrying liquids in hand baggage. If your child has a very specific brand of milk formula or baby food, please note that we carry some supplies but this may not be the exact match for your child.
  • A change of clothes for each child, just in case of any little accidents. It is also recommended to bring layers, as the temperature onboard can vary significantly throughout the flight.
