Flying to Abu Dhabi

You can fly to Abu Dhabi if you are a UAE national, or a UAE resident registered with ICA, you are eligible for a visa on arrival, or you hold a pre-arranged visa issued from any emirate in the UAE.

Following government directives, you must register via the ICA Smart Travel Service before your flight. This applies to adults and children/infants and if you are travelling to Dubai or another emirate.

This does not apply if you are a UAE national or are transiting in Abu Dhabi.

Vaccination is not a condition of entry to Abu Dhabi but you will need it to move freely about the city.

Step 1

Register via the ICA Smart Travel Service before your flight – this does not apply to UAE nationals or transit guests.

Step 2

Take a COVID-19 PCR test before you fly to Abu Dhabi. The time you take your test will depend on where you’re travelling from.

Step 3

Download the UAE Al Hosn app – you’ll need this when you arrive.

Step 4

If you’ve been fully vaccinated or are travelling from a Green list country, you will not need to quarantine. Read more below.

ICA Smart Travel Service

You must register via the ICA Smart Travel Service and obtain a QR code before you fly, even if you are travelling to Dubai or another emirate.

This does not apply if you are a UAE national or are transiting in Abu Dhabi.

If you have been fully vaccinated in the UAE:

  • Register any time before you fly
  • You do not need to upload your vaccine certificate

If you’ve been fully vaccinated outside the UAE:

  • Register five days before your flight
  • If you do not register in time, your vaccination status may not be recognised – that means you will not receive a green pass in the Al Hosn app, and you may be required to quarantine
  • When you’ve registered, you’ll receive a QR code by email

If you have not been vaccinated:

  • Register any time before you fly
  • When you’ve registered, you’ll receive a QR code by email

Al Hosn app green pass system

You will only be able to enter public places in Abu Dhabi if you’ve been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have green status in the Al Hosn app.

For green status:

  1. You must have registered via the ICA app or at ica.gov.ae
  2. When you land in Abu Dhabi, you’ll receive a *UID number. You can also find this by entering your passport number at ica.gov.ae.
  3. Open the Al Hosn app and register using your UID number given to you at Immigration
  4. You’ll receive green status on the Al Hosn app upon receipt of a negative test – you must present this to enter public places in Abu Dhabi, including hotels, restaurants, malls and supermarkets
  5. As an alternative to using the app, visit m.Alhosnapp.ae to check your latest PCR test result. You may also use the official app from your country of origin to show your vaccinated status.

* You can obtain your UID number after entering the UAE using your passport number on the ICA site. Simply search by ‘Passport Information’.
