Salalah has a mild climate that makes it a perfect year-round escape. You’ll find the best time to visit Salalah is from June to September during the Khareef, when monsoon rains turn the area into a lush green oasis. If you’d rather have sun and clear skies for wildlife spotting or walks by the sea, plan your trip between October and February. These drier winter months are also great if you want to go trekking or cycling. 

Salalah International Airport is your primary gateway to southern Oman and the Sultanate’s second busiest airport. It’s just 10 kilometres from the city centre, with taxis and buses that'll help you reach the heart of the city in about 15 minutes. From May 2026, we’ll fly to Salalah twice weekly, making it easy for you to reach this tropical Gulf haven. The IATA code for Salalah International Airport is SLL.

You might need a visa or e-visa to travel to Salalah, depending on your nationality. If you’re a GCC resident, you can often get a free visa, an e-visa, or a visa on arrival. Check the latest requirements before you fly to Oman, so your trip stays hassle-free. 

 

  • Visit visa validity: Entry to Oman is straightforward for many nationalities. Citizens from over 100 countries can enter without a visa for up to 14 days, while travellers from over 70 other nations can apply online for a 30-day stay. 
  • General requirements: Valid passport, passport-sized photo, hotel bookings, return flight tickets, and sufficient funds for your stay, among others. 

  • Currency: Oman uses the Omani Rial (OMR) as its official currency. In Salalah, most places accept major cards. But if you need cash, you can easily withdraw or exchange money from various ATMs and centres across the city. 
  • Language: While Arabic is the official language, you'll hear the unique Dhofari dialect spoken throughout Salalah. English is widely used in business and tourism, so you'll find it easy to communicate in hotels, restaurants, and shops.

  • Taxis and minibuses: Ride the orange and white vehicles to travel quickly across Salalah. Make sure you agree on your fare with the driver before you set off for a seamless trip. 
  • Car: One of the best ways to travel to Salalah is by car. Driving around the place by car allows you to see the changing landscapes and the lush greenery. Start your journey early in the morning to see the landscapes change as you approach its lush greenery.
