Requesting wheelchair assistance

If you have a physical or mobility impairment, please contact us so that we can arrange a suitable wheelchair for your needs. If you require a wheelchair for any other reason, you can request one at etihad.com/manage. Please make sure to request a wheelchair up to 48 hours before your flight.

What we offer

At the airport

We provide assistance from check in all the way to boarding and baggage claim on arrival.

Onboard

Our crew will help you arrive at your seat and disembark the aircraft.

Own wheelchair

Your wheelchair or mobility device travels free of charge, handled safely by our team and returned to you at the aircraft door where available.

Types of wheelchair assistance

At the ramp

For guests who can climb stairs but need help moving long distances through the airport.

Up the stairs

For guests who can walk short distances in the cabin but have difficulty climbing stairs.

To the cabin seat

For guests who are fully immobile and require assistance from check in to their seat. (Medical clearance may be requried.)

Important size & weight guidelines

To ensure safe handling on board:

Maximum wheelchair height: 120 cm (47 inches)
Maximum wheelchair weight: 60 kg

If your wheelchair is larger or heavier, you may be asked to send details for approval.

Frequently asked questions

Yes. Wheelchair and mobility assistance is free on all Etihad flights. There is no extra charge for the service or for carrying your wheelchair or mobility device.

To request special assistance, please reach out to us through our Contact Centres, Live Chat bot, or virtual Whatspp assistant up to 48 hours before your flight.

Yes. You can bring your own manual or powered wheelchair free of charge, in addition to your checked baggage allowance. We’ll handle it safely and return it to you at arrival, or at the aircraft door where available.
