COVID-19 PCR testing

It is mandatory to have a COVID-19 PCR test before you fly. Depending on where you are flying to or from, your test must be carried out between 48 and 96 hours ahead of your flight departure time. Always check in advance.

Your test can be taken at any government accredited medical facility. Guests departing Pakistan and India must use an Etihad approved medical facility.

Children under 12 and people with severe and moderate disabilities are exempt from COVID-19 PCR testing, though this is subject to the regulations at your destination.

Remember to print your test result as you will be required to present it for validation at check-in. You must present a medical certificate or other relevant document, clearly stating the type of test and the result.

You may also present your test result via the Al Hosn app if you are flying to Abu Dhabi.

If your test is positive or you are unable to present proof of your negative COVID-19 PCR test, you will not be permitted to travel. You can rearrange your flight for free, or cancel and use the value of your flight towards your next trip with Etihad Credit. Read more

To make arranging your test quick and simple, we’ve teamed up with Mediclinic. Visit Mediclinic.ae or call 800 2022 to book your test. We recommend you complete your test 48 hours before your trip – you can even arrange to be tested at home. You should receive your results within 24 hours of taking the test.

The service is available for all guests flying from Abu Dhabi, including guests travelling from another emirate to reach Abu Dhabi airport.

Updated 30 June 2020

Travel between Abu Dhabi and other UAE emirates is currently restricted by the Abu Dhabi Government. You must also present your booking confirmation or ticket if requested by officials.

Baggage

Due to government restrictions across our network, you will only be permitted to carry a personal item on board, such as a handbag, backpack or laptop bag. This can weigh up to 5kg. You can check in your remaining cabin baggage for free. This applies if you are flying in Economy, Business or First.

Remember to read our regulations before you travel.

Check-in

From 30 hours before your flight, you can check-in and choose your seat online or via our app. To help us follow social distancing guidelines as closely as possible, some of our seats are unavailable. If you can’t find the seat you would like, we’ll be happy to help you at the airport.

Check-in at the airport opens three hours before your scheduled flight time. Your boarding pass will be ready to collect when you arrive.

If your journey time to the airport coincides with curfew hours in the UAE, you will be required to present your booking confirmation or ticket if requested by officials.

Abu Dhabi Airport

We’ve introduced a number of new procedures at the airport to keep you protected, so please make sure you arrive with plenty of time. Temperature screening is in operation, and you’ll be asked to wait two metres from other guests at all queuing points.

Returning to Abu Dhabi

Please download the Al Hosn app before you fly to Abu Dhabi.

You will only be permitted to re-enter the UAE if you are a UAE national or resident with a valid visa. All other visa types, including tourist visas, are unable to enter.

If you are a UAE resident, you no longer require ICA approval to return to Abu Dhabi. Before you book your flight, you are encouraged to visit uaeentry.ica.gov.ae. Please submit your passport number and Emirates ID number to receive instant verification of your UAE entry status. This will be in accordance with your UAE residence visa validity.

You will undergo thermal screening and COVID-19 PCR testing when you land at Abu Dhabi airport, this will take some time to complete. This applies to all guests, excluding children under 12.

On arrival into Abu Dhabi you must self-isolate for 14 days. The health authorities will evaluate the most appropriate location for your 14-day quarantine; either at home, in a hotel or at accommodation provided by the authorities. You will be required to wear a medically approved wristband for the duration of your quarantine. The wristband will be provided by the authorities at Abu Dhabi Airport after you clear immigration. You are exempt from having to wear the wristband if you:

  • Suffer from a mental disability
  • Live in a nursing home or long-term care facility
  • Suffer from Chronic rheumatological conditions
  • Hold a diplomatic passport

You are required to repeat a COVID-19 PCR test on day 12 of quarantine. Subject to a negative test result, your wristband will then be removed on day 14. Children under 12 are exempt from testing unless they show symptoms of Coronavirus.

After landing in Abu Dhabi, you are only permitted to travel to another UAE emirate by Airport Taxi, Etihad Chauffeur or Etihad Express Coach. If for any reason you are unable to travel this way, you will be required to follow standard Abu Dhabi quarantine guidelines.

You can read more about the quarantine guidelines from the links below:

You will be asked to complete a form agreeing to self-isolate and do everything you can to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the UAE. We recommend you complete this form in advance of your trip. Download now.
